Congratulations to everyone that has signed up for the IN-BOX OPEN (Our community Open) and the CrossFit OPEN. We have over 60 athletes joining in on the fun!!If you haven’t yet registered it isn’t too late- Talk to Marie. This is truly the best time of the year!!Reminder this is a FUN community event. Introduce yourself to people you haven’t met, cheer, high five and encourage everyone. Let’s challenge ourselves and help get the best out of everyone!! THE PLAN SATURDAY- The biggest day (You can also complete the WOD during any session Monday)7:00am start – We ask all athletes to be there for the athlete briefing. Please be sure to watch the standards video – https://games.crossfit.com/workouts/open/2026 TEAMS- Today is the day!! Be proud, be loud!! Dress up. Your team should be easily identifiable by your dress up. Lets make sure we get TEAM Photos. POINTS- 1 point per athlete for participation. Injured/scaled, etc (everyone can participate- we will have a solution to ensure everyone can participate).YOUR VOTE- Each week (Your vote counts). BEST DRESSED – 3 PointsSPIRIT OF THE OPEN – 3 PointsNote give your vote to someone deserving- they do not need to be part of your team. 3 points for each. HEATS- We will be running in heats of 10 athletes/10 judges. Each athlete will need their own judge. We need your help. Please count at least one athlete to share it around. We will continue to work through heats until all athletes have completed their WOD. Note: If you need to be out of the box early be sure to put your name down for an early heat. We’ll divide you up into four teams, each with a Team Captain and an awesome team name. This will occur on our DRAFT AFTERNOON/MORNING – TBA: Friday 13th Feb or Saturday 14th Feb. Now it is time to work together have fun & get some banter happening.Individuals/Teams will earn points each week by:1. Participating (1 point per participant),2. Top three winners in Open division and Masters 50+ (1st – 3 points) (2nd -2 points) (3rd – 1 Point),3. Spirit (3 points) (by member vote)4. Best dressed (3 points) (by member vote). We will have a weekly and running IN-HOUSE SCORE CARDS.The Team with the highest TALLY after 3 weeks WINS!!! FURTHER DETAILS:Important: It is each individual athletes responsibility to ensure they have watched the demonstration video and understand movement standards prior to completing the WOD.Your opportunities to do the open workouts are as follows: Saturday – 7:00am-9:00am (ish)If you can make it, this is the session to come too. The atmosphere of the mornings is awesome and the more people the better. We will need judges, counters & supporters so bring your families and friends to cheer you on. Don’t forget Pom Pom, signs, etc anything to help everyone get through.This session will start with a briefing at 7:00am followed by as many heats as necessary to get through the number of athletes in attendance. Remember we can not do this alone, we need you to assist in counting, judging etc. so stick around even after you have completed you WOD.*Please note that if you are not signed up for the open you are still more than welcome to attend and treat this workout like a normal WOD. Monday– All sessionsAll sessions on Monday will be running the CrossFit Open workout. Aim to partner up to ensure you have a counter/judge if you are formally competing. If not, treat it like a normal workout (no need for a judge). Feel free to come and support throughout these sessions – the more the merrier.If you have already completed the workout on Saturday and do not wish to do it again, we will provide you with an alternative on this day. The kids are back at school so you are finally going to have some time to yourself. Now is the opportune time to focus on you – get on track and lose those extra few kilos you may have put on over the festive season. Whether it’s the bikini body you want, increased energy, to shed a few kilos and to just feel good, this is where to start. It is far too often we put ourselves second to our children, our partners, friends and work, etc. What we need to remember is we will be a better parent, partner, etc. if we take time to look after our health and fitness. Good health provides us not only with a greater quantity of life, but most importantly quality of life. Here are some tips to get you moving….. READY…SET…GO!!!! Have fun! Exercise doesn’t have to be boring, and we have a little saying “It doesn’t have to be FUN, to be FUN!” For me the “fun” in training is learning new skills, getting faster, stronger, etc. Set yourself a challenge and aim towards achieving it. This can be anything from being able to run around with my children and be an active parent, beat my 8 year old in a running race, complete 10 push-ups, climb a mountain, learn to swim…. You get the idea. Open your mind and have something to strive for, as this makes the journey a worthwhile one. Go on and set yourself a goal. Do this now!!! Frequency & consistency So you have set yourself a goal, now is the time to get to work. In all aspects of life satisfaction comes from all achievements (big and small). Have your eye on your end goal, but remember to celebrate the smaller milestones towards achieving it. You need to be able to run 100m before you can run a marathon. How do we start achieving the small (and then big) goals? Start working towards them- hit them regularly and with consistency. We recommend a minimum of 2-3 times a week, every week (I.e. not 1 day this week, 7 next week, 0 the next). Initially our goal is to establish good/healthy habits, that will become second nature soon enough. So schedule it into your diary and don’t give yourself an out. Even better commit to a friend to do this together (it is unlikely you will be happy about letting someone else down). This will ensure you are giving yourself the best chances of success. Pick up the pace. This is another area where it is a great to have a friend along for the journey. I am by no way suggesting “walk talking” (a casual stroll where you can talk comfortably). If you can talk, you are not working hard – get your eye on your prize (your goal) and work like you want to achieve it. We want your heart rate up and we want you sweaty. For some this may be a brisk walk, for others this may be a sprint. *If you have any conditions that may limit you be sure to get clearance from your doctor before starting. You are what you eat As much as I know you don’t want to hear it, you cannot out-train a bad diet. You may get quick results through ill-advised methods but these methods are unsustainable and as soon as you stop, the results stop too. It may take a little longer to see results through a more holistic approach but the beauty of this is that the extra time it takes is extra time spent learning the skills of good eating. Once you’ve got that ball rolling you’ll be much more successful than the person who wants everything yesterday. If it seems too good to be true – it is. We recommend establishing good eating habits based around real food (not processed). Basic guidelines are to stick to the perimeter of the shop- meat, vegetables, nuts, seeds, fruit (I.e. no packaged food, sugar). Do the right thing 80% of the time and allow yourself the occasional treat.
